Boat Propeller Repair

by www.usedprop.com

The propeller is one of the most often overlooked and misunderstood items of marine hardware. Similar to the tires on a car, propellers come in many different sizes and offer different levels of performance.

Unfortunately because of the many boat/motor combinations & other factors that determine proper propeller size there are no lists or charts that can tell you what size prop you need for your specific boat. There are now computer programs available that can get close to the right size but fine tuning may still be needed. Due to this "mystery" of boat propellers most new boats are now being sold without props on them. Usually leaving an inexperienced dealer to choose the right type of propeller. Sometimes they guess right, most often they don't.

Just like the automobile tire propellers need to be balanced and in good condition. A propeller in need of repair or a pitch change can be the cause of many different performance problems and/or safety issues. Problems which most often occur  include, poor acceleration and fuel economy, vibration, overloading the motor, or over revving  the motor, all of which can cause serious damage to your entire motor/drive system. As for safety issues taking a boat out to sea with a bad propeller on it would not be a good idea. We recommend that you always carry a spare, just like your car.

Most propeller problems can be corrected. Visit this link today and check out our online propeller repair service! http://www.usedprop.com/propeller/repair/
